Beaumont, Texas – In 2014, Nutrition & Services for Seniors (NSS) provided 322,235 home delivered meals to seniors and disabled adults in Jefferson and Hardin counties, located in Southeast Texas. In addition, they served over 96,000 meals to senior in 18 dining centers located across the community. Feeding the elderly and homebound people in their community is just one of the valuable services NSS performs for its neighbors.

Early in 2015, Edaren Foundation provided seed funding to NSS to begin a “Grow to Share” donation garden. The organic community garden will be located on a designated piece of land on the NSS property and will be used to raise fresh fruits and vegetables that can be distributed homebound clients throughout their service area. The garden will be maintained by volunteers and paid for through a variety of sources. The Edaren Foundation is proud to provide the Phase I funding to get the project off the ground and help pay for an expert in the field consult NSS on best practices to help insure success.

Nutrition & Services for Seniors began their mission in Beaumont in 1983. Their ‘Meals on Wheels’ program has provided millions of hot meals, but their ‘whole life enhancement approach’ also serves seniors by offering other vital services such as transportation, personal safety devices, nutritional supplements, groceries and AniMeals (pet food for their companions).

Edaren is proud to partner with Nutrition & Services for Seniors on this important project.
